SNEAK PREVIEW OF the Gatineau hot air balloon festival headliners

April 25, 2018

The program lineup for the 31st Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival presented by Loto-Québec in collaboration with Desjardins is all about teaming up! Event spokesperson, Patrice Bélanger, today announced it in his usual effusive style, accompanied by several artists who will be gracing the Casino Lac-Leamy Stage from August 30 to September 3. Each evening will feature artists who enjoy performing together and sharing the stage as friends, buddies and family.

“We are happy to once again renew our long-standing partnership with the Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival. As the presenting sponsor, we are proud to lend our support to this major event for all that it brings to life and brings together. In every corner of the province, Loto-Québec supports events that have a significant social and economic impact on the community. The Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival wonderfully illustrates our sponsorship program’s mandate, which is to enable our clients and festival-goers to experience a whole world of entertainment,” commented Loto-Québec Societal responsibility director Simon Robert.

The Festival will kick off on Thursday, August 30 with the SPACE: The Best of Pink Floyd Show extravaganza. This mega-production is aiming for nothing less than becoming the world leader in Pink Floyd interpretations, staged by Richard Petit, and under the musical direction of Michel Bruno. For more than two hours, fans will be immersed in the ambiophonic universe of one the biggest bands in the history of rock! Nothing has been left out of this generous production, be it in terms of the vocal and musical interpretations or the costumes and spectacular projections. With more than 250 million albums sold throughout their career, Pink Floyd’s hits are too numerous to count. Nonetheless, Another Brick In The Wall, Money, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Comfortably Numb—and so many others—are worthy of special mention. A show that will leave your head spinning!

On Friday, August 31, the now traditional comedy gala will bring established artists together with up and coming comedians! Hosted by the irrepressible Olivier Martineau, the Casino Lac-Leamy Stage will offer, in quick succession, the strident humour of Rosalie Vaillancourt, one of the three Olivier winning numbers, the 2017 discovery of the year, the viral Julien Lacroix, the many facets of Anthony Kavanagh and the antics of Rachid Badouri, whose reputation extends from Quebec to France and even Morocco! Be prepared for 90 minutes of unrestrained laughter!

As announced, the Gerry, 30 ans de Rendez-vous doux show, exclusive to the FMG, will pay tribute to the cult album of Gerry Boulet on Saturday, September 1. Produced in collaboration with Justin Boulet, it will feature a dozen talented musicians, as well as the unique voices of Mario Saint-Amand, Roxane Bruneau, Breen Leboeuf, France Castel and Marjo! The evening of song will feature a remake of the entire Rendez-vous doux show, as well as Offenbach’s top hits. It will include Angela, Un beau grand bateau and Les yeux du cœur, as well as Câline de blues, Ayoye and Je chante comme un coyote. And of course, who could forget Mes blues passent pu dans porte.

On Sunday, September 2, two Quebec bands will share the stage: La Chicane and Kaïn. As you may recall, musician Éric Maheu plays with both! The original members of La Chicane had all of Quebec singing along with their original hits. FMG festival-goers will now get their chance to join in with the ever popular Calvaire, Juste pour voir le monde and the latest one, La dernière chicane. Kaïn, whose popularity is soaring with its CD Welcome Bonheur and his first two extracts, Comme un bum and La nuit gronde, has not been to parc de la Baie since 2014. An eagerly awaited return for the ones who brought us Embarque ma belle, La bonne franquette and Adam et Ève. Both bands have promised us some first-time collaborations. An absolute must in Gatineau!

Finally, on September 3, two buddies, frequently celebrated for their talents as writer-composers, will have the pleasure of wrapping up this 31st edition with a bang: Vincent Vallières and Patrice Michaud. Two names that evoke folk guitars, catchy lyrics and tunes, fresh air and bonfires. Both artists at the top of their game. Vincent Vallières, whose song À hauteur d’homme has topped the BDS charts, has planned a night of intimate, engaging and festive numbers, with some clear touches of rock. The male performer of the year, Patrice Michaud, accompanied by his Magestiques, will deliver a succession of his many hits, including the 2017 song of the year, Kamikaze, along with Cahier Canada, the moving Saison des pluies and the tremendously catchy Mécaniques générales! And of course, it would be unforgivable if they didn’t close the Festival by teaming up for a few notes!
