FMG's responsible practices recognized
The Conseil québécois des événements écoresponsables has selected the Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival (FMG) as a candidate in two categories in the upcoming Les Vivats competition. This competition aims to honour event organizers who reduce their environmental footprint and improve their social and economic footprint.
In addition to all the measures included in its sustainable development policy, the FMG and its Green Team are proud of the implementation of two new initiatives for the 2019 edition:
- A partnership with Ola Bamboo that resulted in 70,000 units of compostable utensils donated to food concessions.
- The planting of 50 trees in partnership with Irokko, aimed at offsetting the greenhouse gases produced by the FMG's hot air balloon flights in 2019.
On November 11th, FMG will find out if it has won the award in the Responsible Waste Management and Socio-Economic Engagement categories.
It should be noted that in 2012, the FMG was awarded the Grand Vivats, the most prestigious category in the very first Vivats competition!
The Festival also takes part in the Vertuoses, a competition for environmental excellence that aims to reward and promote sustainable development initiatives in the Outaouais. The winners will be announced on October 22nd.
The FMG's green initiatives are possible thanks to the collaboration of suppliers, volunteers and, of course, festivalgoers! We would like to offer a sincere thank you to our partners in these green initiatives: Ville de Gatineau, Enviro Éduc-Action, Recyc-Québec, Irokko, Ola Bamboo, the Gatineau Soccer Association and the Scouts de l'Outaouais.
